Friend the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, is working closely with her international counterparts to pave the way for an ambitious deal. In June, the Prime Minister joined other G7 leaders in calling for an ambitious climate package to be agreed in Paris. But there remains a lot of work to do. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/07/2015 answer text <p>The Government is seeking a deal in Paris in December that keeps the goal of limiting average global emissions to below 2°C within reach. The UK has led in taking action to reduce its emissions and has reduced them by 30% since 1990. Our carbon budgets are set to deliver emissions reductions that put us on a pathway to deliver our 2°C consistent 2050 target. They take account of the fact that Britain will still need significant oil and gas supplies while we decarbonise our economy and transition to a low carbon economy, as set out in our 2011 Carbon Plan. Projections show that in 2030 oil and gas will remain a vital part of the energy mix, providing around 70 per cent of the UK’s primary energy requirements. This followed advice from the Committee on Climate Change who deemed that 80% was a fair share from the UK to an international effort to limit global warming to 2 degrees.</p><p>Our policies are designed to tackle climate change and make the transition to a low carbon economy. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/07/2015 answer text <p>Sea level will rise in response to the expansion of the warming oceans and from melting land ice. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 5th Assessment Report notes that for a climate change scenario consistent with remaining below 2°C, global mean sea level rise is likely to be between 0.26 to 0.55 m for the period 2081–2100, compared to 1986–2005. The top of this range could be higher should the marine-based ice sheets in Antarctica collapse, increasing by up to several tenths of a metre. Sea level rise will continue beyond the 21<sup>st</sup> century in this scenario even though global temperatures stabilise, with at least a further 0.5 m expected by 2500.</p><p>The future contribution from ice sheets remains very uncertain. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/07/2015 answer text <p>The recent “Speak Up for the Love of” climate lobby in Westminster – along with interventions from the Pope and other faith leaders on climate change shows that all sectors of society recognise that climate change is a serious threat.</p><p>The Papal Encyclical raises a number of important issues, including – the reduction of global poverty, the protection of the planet, and a process of sustainable development which will lead to a healthier life for all.</p><p>The UK is already acting to address these challenges. Our commitment to the 0.7% target for our international aid budget is a concrete sign of the UK’s solid support for sustainable development for all.</p><p>The UK Government also recognises the importance of tackling climate change. We were the first country to put in place a legally binding long-term target, and we have established five year carbon budgets for reducing emissions into the late 2020s.</p><p>Internationally we are leading the charge. The EU is on track to meet its commitments for 2020 and has agreed an ambitious emissions reduction target of at least 40% by 2030. The UK has a strong track record on climate finance and is meeting its commitments, for example committing £3.87bn through the International Climate Fund (ICF) in this spending review period. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/06/2015 answer text <p>We are preparing for the impacts of climate change, including the increased threat of extreme weather and flooding, primarily through the implementation of the first National Adaptation Programme report which Defra published in July 2013. This sets out more than 370 actions across key sectors involving government, business, councils, civil society and academia.</p><p> </p><p><em> </em></p><p> </p><p>The second round of reporting under the Climate Change Act 2008 Adaptation Reporting Power is currently underway. The process encourages organisations, such as major infrastructure providers and public bodies, to identify current and future climate risks to their organisation and functions, and asks them to develop a plan to address them.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Over the next six years, £2.3 billion will be spent on more than 1,500 schemes to improve flood defences. This will better protect more than 300,000 homes, up to 420,000 acres of agricultural land, 205 miles of railway and 340 miles of roads.
