answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/05/2019 answer text <p>The UK played a pivotal role in securing the Paris Agreement in 2015 and we continue to take a leading role internationally in forging agreements and leading by example. The UK pledged to provide at least £5.8bn of International Climate Finance (ICF) between 2016 and 2020, aiming for an even split between mitigation and adaptation – and placing us amongst the world’s lead providers of climate finance. The United Nations Climate Action Summit later this year will be an important moment in increasing global climate ambition and action. The UK is co-leading on the climate resilience and adaptation theme with Egypt, in partnership with Malawi, Bangladesh and the Netherlands. This is a crucial opportunity to propel an unprecedented shift in enabling government, businesses and people to adapt to and cope with climate shocks and stresses. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/04/2019 answer text <p>The Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Priority Outcomes for 2019/20 now include a specific objective on Climate Change: 'tackle the global threat of Climate Change by: galvanising international action; promoting the role and impact of COP26, including bidding to host it; and taking a global leadership role'.</p><p>The objectives for discussions vary widely depending on the international partners concerned but focus on: increasing global ambition to bring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions into line with Paris Agreement goals; delivering policy and regulatory reform that supports sustainable growth and transition to a low carbon economy; and supporting effective measures to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the most vulnerable countries. We are well placed in these areas. We have proved that it is possible to reduce carbon emissions and grow the economy and are one of the first G7 countries formally exploring a more ambitious GHG emissions' target. With our Clean Growth Strategy and Grand Challenges we are continuing our delivery of the world-leading 2008 Climate Change Act and have committed to leading the resilience strand at the UN Secretary General's Climate Summit. We are also discussing COP26 in 2020 and our offer to host. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/03/2019 answer text <p>We work collaboratively with other countries to tackle climate change in a variety of international fora.</p><p> </p><p>We play a leading role in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change process, which brings together almost 200 countries to discuss a global approach to tackling climate change. This process led to 195 countries coming together to secure the historic Paris Agreement in 2015, and a common rulebook for its implementation being agreed last year in Poland. This rulebook will drive genuine climate action globally, while allowing for flexibility and support for those countries that need it.</p><p> </p><p>As part of this process, we have offered to host the next important 2020 summit, COP26, demonstrating our commitment to ambitious international climate action.</p><p> </p><p>Later this year, the UN Secretary General is convening a Climate Summit in New York. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/01/2019 answer text <p>​The UK continues to push for greater international cooperation on climate change.</p><p>Last month at the Katowice COP 24 conference we reached an agreement on the rulebook for Paris Agreement implementation, a crucial step towards international accountability. However, all our assessments conclude that the current level of global ambition is still not enough to meet the Paris goals of just over three years ago. We need unprecedented and rapid action to reduce emissions and build resilience.</p><p>Minister of State for the Commonwealth and United Nations, Lord Ahmad, spoke just last week at the UN Security Council on the need to do more, and the UK is leading on Climate Resilience at the UN Secretary General's Climate Summit in September.</p><p>The UK takes the lead internationally on coal phase-out, renewable energy and zero emission vehicles, amongst others, but we are clear that in order to meet the Paris Agreement goals, all countries need to do more.</p> answering member constituency Cities of London and Westminster answering member printed Mark Field question first answered 28/01/2019 16:31:05 answering member 1405 label Biography information for Mark Field
