answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/10/2019 answer text <p>The British Nationality Act 1981 came into effect on 1 January 1983. The primary aim of that Act was to restrict citizenship to those with a close and continuing connection with the UK. Since 1983 a child born in the UK will only be a British citizen if either parent is a British citizen or settled in the UK. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/04/2019 answer text <p>The duty in Section 55 of the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act 2009 to have regard to the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are in the United Kingdom, applies to all immigration and nationality decisions.</p><p>This includes decisions taken to deprive an individual of British citizenship where it is conducive to the public good.
