answer text <p>The Government is committed to maintaining an Army that is able to field a war-fighting division.</p><p>Under the Strategic Defence and Security Review 2015 the Army's principal contribution to Joint Force 2025 is a division of up to 40,000 regular and reserve troops. In addition, within its remaining total force strength the Army would need to retain the ability to deliver its national resilience and fixed tasks, and to deploy a follow-on force.</p><p>All aspects of Defence will be considered in the National Security Capability Review, including how the Army will deliver the division. The Review is on-going and no decisions have been put to Ministers.</p> more like this

The brigades will receive incremental capability enhancements as their units receive the upgraded Warrior and Challenger 2, and new AJAX vehicles (formerly called Scout SV). The Ministry of Defence is expecting all of these vehicles to be in service by 2025.</p> more like this

answer text <p>For Regulars the total strength of the Infantry as at 1 December was 19,420 compared to a total Infantry Liability of 20,164. Of this, 4,380 Infantry Personnel are serving outwith their Regiments' units, for example in other Arms/Services and infantry Units, at HQs, and training and instructional establishments. This overall infantry manpower can be used flexibly.</p><p> </p><p>The Infantry regiments are made up of one or more Battalions which include infantry personnel and Attached Arms, such as drivers, medics, clerks etc. We are not able to provide shortfall data against this overall regiment establishment as data is not collected for the Attached Arms in the format requested.</p><p> </p><p>The figures in the attached table show the shortfall between the strength of infantry capbadged personnel vs infantry capbadged establishment for each of the listed Regiments’ units (ie infantry personnel serving within their capbadge battalion(s)).
