answer text <p>Farming subsidies are covered by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Agriculture which was adopted by WTO members (including the UK) in 1994. This agreement sets out conditions under which domestic support in favour of agricultural producers may be made. answer text A new environmental land management system will be developed in the light of the outputs of the open consultation “Health and harmony: the future for food, farming and the environment in a Green Brexit”. answer text <p>The Rural Payments Agency received over 86,000 applications for the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) 2017. The window for making payments runs from December to June each scheme year. During this transition period, we propose to first reduce the largest BPS payments in England. answer text <p>The Government understands the importance of providing stability to farmers as we leave the European Union.</p><p> </p><p>The same cash total in funds for farm support has been committed for the duration of this Parliament.</p><p> </p><p>We have also committed to fund Pillar II agreements, including agri-environment schemes, signed from within the current Multi-Annual Financial Framework (MFF) allocation before the UK leaves the EU.
