<p>We understand that the World Health Organization intends to undertake a prevalence
study on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) in a number of countries.</p><p> </p><p>
</p><p> </p><p>The feasibility of estimating prevalence is not yet fully clear, given
uncertainties around diagnostic criteria for a number of conditions included within
FASD. Studies internationally vary in methods and in how they address diagnostic issues.</p><p>
</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>We intend to follow this study with interest and believe it
would be prudent to await developments in this study, before considering any further
prevalence work.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>
