Whilst there is no commercial section at the British Embassy in Khartoum, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Department for International Development teams in country are working with Sudan on improvements to the regulatory and business environment to strengthen longer term stability. Sudan remains a challenging country in which to do business. We are determined to do all that we can to make sure that something like this never happens again.</p><p>Our immediate priority is to support the victims, to find homes for those made homeless by the fire, and to make sure the country's housing stock is safe. The Secretary of State also announced on 5 July that an independent Recovery Taskforce will be appointed to advise the Council on the longer term recovery needs, and will answer directly to the Secretary of State. The current level of the allowance is £36.95 per week for each supported person in a household. No UK money goes directly to the regime in North Korea, and there is no DFID bilateral aid programme. A number of multilateral agencies that work in North Korea receive funding via the UK’s core contributions to these organisations. The FCO scaled back project work after the fourth nuclear test – but continues to fund some small-scale projects aimed at improving the lives of the most vulnerable in DPRK society.
