The Medical Research Council (MRC) is one of the main agencies through which the Government supports medical and clinical research. It is an independent research funding body which receives its grant-in-aid from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In keeping with the Haldane principle, decisions on specific research priorities and funding are taken by the Research Councils based on advice from the research community through peer review The MRC welcomes high quality applications for support into any aspect of human health and these are judged in open competition with other demands on funding. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that at least £500 million would be made available for the Royal Navy's flagship submarine base HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane, securing 6,700 jobs and creating thousands more.</p><p>The project to make the necessary adaptations to accommodate the Successor submarine programme at Her Majesty's Naval Base Clyde and Royal Naval Armament Depot Coulport is in its Assessment Phase.
