It is a long-standing tradition in this country that people are free to gather together and to demonstrate their views, provided that they do so within the law.</p><p>There is, of course, a balance to be struck. Protestors’ rights need to be balanced with the rights of others to go about their business. The government has reached agreement with the EU on an extension until October 31<sup>st</sup> at the latest, with the option to leave earlier as soon as a deal is ratified. However, “No Deal” remains the legal default at the end of the extension period if a deal cannot be reached. As a responsible government we have been preparing for this possibility for almost three years to minimise any disruption in the event of no deal. However, such was the pace of change in the shipbuilding industry that few structures survived. Doxford Gate sits in the path of a new inner ring road which will link the city centre to a new bridge across the River Wear. The site has been considered for statutory protection by listing, but it does not meet the national criteria. The UK is focused on de-escalation and we continue to urge the Iranian authorities to reduce tensions. The former Foreign Secretary spoke to Foreign Minister Zarif on 13 July to discuss the importance of finding a resolution to the current situation. We have been clear that Gibraltar’s action, with UK assistance, to detain the Grace 1 tanker was to enforce EU Syria sanctions in Gibraltar’s territorial waters on the basis that the oil was being transported to a sanctioned Syrian entity.
