Through a multi-donor trust fund called ZIMFUND, DFID has, since 2010, supported the rehabilitation of water supply infrastructure to improve waste water treatment capacity and water supply to some areas. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/06/2019 answer text <p>The UK strongly believes that displaced persons camps in Syria, including Al-Hol, Al Roj and Rukban, should not become permanent, and hope that all Syrians currently living in such camps will be able to return home in due course. We support Syrians’ right to return home voluntarily, in safety and with dignity, in line with international humanitarian law, but only when conditions are right for this to happen.</p><p> </p><p>For many, returns will not be possible without an end to the conflict in Syria. We continue to support the UN-facilitated political process for Syria, which aims to reach a lasting settlement to the conflict that protects the rights of all Syrians. Alongside this, we are also using UK Aid to support those who do wish to return home from IDP camps. For example, we are supporting education, vocational training and job creation, and contributing to the restoration of basic services. A network of Country Offices enables DFID to ensure we have staff with expert local knowledge and the ability to work directly with local partners.</p><p> </p><p>The rules that govern our programming stress the importance of ensuring that the views and experiences of citizens and beneficiaries inform the design and delivery of our programmes. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/06/2019 answer text <p>Approximately 40% of health facilities in Malawi do not have adequate water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.</p><p>DFID’s £110m Malawi Health Service Support Programme funds regular supply of piped water to health facilities in 28 districts and the construction of new health facilities that meet water, sanitation and hygiene standards. An estimated 400,000 Malawians will benefit from these facilities.</p><p>DFID Malawi has funded UNICEF to improve hygiene facilities in 13 Cholera-prone districts. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/06/2019 answer text <p>DFID Kenya used an internationally respected open-access modelling tool known as ‘Impact2 model’ to estimate the 322,000 additional Family Planning Users to be reached by the programme. This estimate does not include the terminations of pregnancy but covers only users of voluntary modern family planning.</p><p> </p><p>DFID’s legislative authority to provide development assistance comes under the International Development Act (IDA). The policy on safe abortion takes an evidence-based, public health approach that aims to reduce death and disability caused by unsafe abortions. The policy is also consistent with the Cairo Programme of Action, agreed at the 1994 United Nations International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). The ICPD affirmed that in no case should abortion be promoted as a method of family planning.</p><p> </p><p>In countries where abortion is permitted, we can support development programmes that make safe abortion more accessible. Peace settlements are 35% more likely to endure for more than 15 years if women have been involved in negotiations.</p><p> </p><p>Increasing women’s political participation and leadership is a foundational pillar of DFID’s Strategic Vision for Gender Equality, launched in March 2018, and is a top priority in the current cross-Government National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.</p><p> </p><p>Just 24% of national parliamentarians around the world are women. DFID programmes are supporting women to participate in politics.</p><p> </p><p>In Nigeria, DFID’s ‘Women in Politics’ programme supports women elected to the National Assembly, including establishing the first women’s caucus as a forum for advocacy, policy development and training. In Afghanistan, DFID support has helped women provincial councillors who often face intimidation and violence in their work.</p><p> </p><p>Women’s voice and leadership can make a real difference on issues that matter to them.</p><p> </p><p>DFID has supported Amplify Change to fund women-led organisations that help women to claim their sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR). DFID and the Department for Health and Social Care are working closely together on tackling AMR and senior officials have met on this issue.</p><p> </p><p>As part of tackling AMR, DFID continues to support health and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes which emphasise the importance of improving infection control, and WASH in health facilities, which is key for the prevention of infections and antimicrobial resistance. We are working with international partners to monitor the outbreak, and have been a leading donor to the response. UK funding to the World Health Organisation and UNICEF has enabled key activities critical to ending the outbreak including surveillance, contact tracing, infection prevention and control and vaccination.</p><p>As of 27 May 2019, there have been 1,920 confirmed and probable cases and 1,281 deaths.
