answer text
We are aware of the report. In our contacts at official and Ministerial level, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has consistently raised concerns with the Greek government about the humanitarian situation faced by some migrants, and we will continue to do so. The UK remains fully committed to working with Greece to manage migration in the Eastern Mediterranean through the implementation of the EU-Turkey Statement. Since March 2018, the UK has provided interpreters to work with the Greek Reception and Identification Service, supporting migrants arriving on the hotspot islands, including through facilitating access to medical and psycho-social care. As the Minister for Immigration announced on 20 December, we have also made changes to the 'Dubs amendment' scheme to allow more of the most vulnerable unaccompanied children to qualify for relocation to the UK.
more like this

However, third country high-risk food and feed consignments transiting the EU destined for the United Kingdom will be subject to controls and will need to enter the UK at ports with the required facilities to undertake those controls. Following detailed analysis to determine the possible number of such transits, there is sufficient existing capacity at UK ports with those facilities to undertake all relevant import controls.
more like this

answer text
The government collects no systematic evidence of the different rates of interest offered by social and commercial lenders. Interest rates cannot be compared in isolation. Interest rates applied by all investors, including independent social investment funds, are calculated based on credit assessments and reflect the risk presented by the individual organisations seeking investment and the costs of providing finance.

We have received no complaints that recipients of social investment are being obligated to accept any investment offer they feel is not beneficial to them. answer text
If there is a deal, and the Withdrawal Agreement is ratified, the UK will continue to be able to participate in Horizon 2020 until the end of the programme. This includes access to funding for UK researchers from the European Research Council (ERC) and the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA).

In the event of a ‘no deal’ scenario, the Government has committed to underwrite all successful UK bids submitted to Horizon 2020 before EU exit, including ERC and MSCA funded projects. Through the extension to the guarantee, the Government has also committed to fund all UK participants’ funding in all Horizon 2020 calls open to third country participants from the date of exit. This would cover the lifetime of projects, even if they last beyond 2020.

We are very conscious, though, that third country participation is not possible for nearly all ERC and some MSCA grants. The Government is considering what other measures may be necessary to support UK research and innovation in the event that the guarantee and the extension are required. We are working with stakeholders to identify appropriate measures that could be put in place in the period immediately after EU Exit, if needed.

answer text
The Pass Office recently introduced a Netcall telephone management system in order to monitor calls. In general, this shows that the Pass Office is receiving an increased volume of calls. This reflects a 17% increase in the number of pass applications, from 10,849 in 2017 to 12,940 in 2018. In particular, the Pass Office experienced a large increase in calls following the Christmas break. This coincided with a period when the Pass Office was suffering from staff shortages. While this is now being addressed, it has meant that the office currently has fewer people dedicated to responding to calls, as the back-office team also perform duties such as processing security clearance applications.

The Pass Office is keen to ensure good customer service. As calls to the Pass Office are often to check on the status of applications, callers are being advised to email the Pass Office with the relevant information. This is so that Pass Office staff can then respond more effectively and swiftly to these enquiries. The Pass Office encourages e-mail enquiries as the best way customers can get a quick update on the status of an application.
