star this property answer text <p>Under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement with the EU, the UK will be free to negotiate, sign, and ratify FTAs during the Implementation Period.</p><p> </p><p>During the Backstop, if it were ever to come into effect, we would be free to operate our own independent trade policy, including by negotiating our own FTAs, and implementing the areas that don’t affect the functioning of the backstop - including services and investment.</p><p> </p><p>As agreed in the Political Declaration, the UK’s future relationship with the EU must recognise the development of an independent UK trade policy. The government has been clear that we will not be in the Single Market or the Customs Union as part of this.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p><strong></strong></p><p>The Government, through our overseas network, HM Trade Commissioners, and through Ministerial and Trade Envoy visits, works actively to support trade and reduce barriers for UK companies looking to export to Asia by engaging with the region’s governments and business sectors. Recently we’ve secured market access for UK dairy products to China, worth £240m over five years, and beef and lamb to Japan, worth £127m over five years. We are also lobbying multilaterally, establishing a UK Mission to ASEAN in 2019, and are considering the possibility of the CPTPP as a priority FTA once we leave the EU.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Secretary of State led a delegation of over 100 UK companies to the Consumer Electronics Show, the largest trade show in the world in support of fantastic, innovative UK business. The full costs of the Secretary of State’s visit was paid for by the department.</p><p> </p><p>The Department’s Tradeshow Access Programme provides grants to eligible businesses to attend overseas trade shows. This Programme supported 16 businesses to attend the Consumer Electronics Show, at a cost of approximately £2,000 per business. None of these businesses had their visit fully funded by the department.</p><p> </p><p>The department does not hold information on private costs incurred by members of the delegation to attend the Consumer Electronics Show.</p> more like this

The announcement of Los Angeles as host of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the successful ‘United’ bid of the United States, Canada and Mexico to host the 2026 FIFA Football World Cup present opportunities for UK expertise in major sporting events.
