	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/12/2018 answer text <p>Public Health England (PHE) has not made an assessment of the economic effect on the United Kingdom food industry of proposed measures to reduce the calorie content of food products by 20%.</p><p> </p><p>An assessment was, however, made through modelling to estimate the potential health economic benefits of a calorie reduction programme at a population level. A 20% reduction in calories from everyday foods that contribute to population intake, if achieved over five years, would prevent 35,370 premature deaths, save the National Health Service £4.5 billion in healthcare costs and save social care costs of around £4.48 billion, over a 25 year period.
