The legislative ban on opening new grammar schools remains in place, however, the law allows the expansion of existing schools. Grammar schools, like all other types of schools, are able to propose an expansion of their school site. Any proposal to expand onto a satellite site in another local authority area, would need to demonstrate that it would be a genuine expansion and would not constitute a new school.
