answer text
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office records the charges, or category of charge, on which individuals are detained, where that information is provided to consular staff. We are currently aware of a small number of British nationals detained in Ethiopia, but not necessarily as political prisoners. The UK has repeatedly raised human rights concerns with the Ethiopian Government, including around the arrest and imprisonment of people for their political views. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office provides consular support to detainees as usual.
more like this

answer text
The department is carefully considering the World Economic Report.

We expect all schools to offer a broad and balanced education consisting of an academically rigorous, knowledge-based curriculum, which is supported by the development of essential life skills such as confidence, teamwork and resilience.

Schools are also encouraged to offer extra-curricular activities aimed at developing these skills through after-school clubs and through programmes such as the National Citizen Service (NCS) and the Cadet Expansion Programme (CEP). The government will be investing over £1 billion during the next four years to make NCS a rite of passage for many 16 and 17 year olds.

The government has committed £50 million of LIBOR funding to the CEP to deliver 500 cadet units in schools across the UK by April 2020. Cadet units in schools provide extraordinary opportunities for career and personal development for pupils and staff alike. In October 2017, the department announced a £22 million Essential Life Skills programme in the 12 ‘Opportunity Areas’. It will enable schools to offer extra-curricular activities, aimed at developing the non-cognitive skills of disadvantaged pupils living in areas where social mobility is low.

answer text
The £15 million Fair Chance Fund (FCF) was an innovative three year programme designed to improve accommodation, education and employment outcomes for homeless young people aged 18 - 24, who did not have priority need under the homelessness legislation but had a range of support needs which presented barriers to securing and sustaining, accommodation and getting on in life.

Many of the participants had multiple needs, often resulting in on-going problems and issues. This included a history of family and relationship breakdown, alongside other vulnerabilities. The causes of homelessness can be multiple and complex. Where family and/or relationship breakdown is present, it is often just one part of the wider picture. That is why the FCF key workers in all 7 areas worked intensely with the young people by offering tailored support to meet their needs.

Two interim evaluations of the FCF were published last year [https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fair-chance-fund-evaluation-interim-reports], and the final evaluation will be published later this year. Findings are being used to inform future policy work on supporting young people experiencing homelessness and on the use of social investment.
