star this property answer text
The UN’s September Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report shows that South Sudanese people are experiencing food insecurity at unprecedented levels. A massive aid effort, which included £100 million provided by the Department for International Development, alleviated the famine declared in February this year. However, 6 million people, or 56% of the population, are now estimated to be severely food insecure, and 1.2 million are on the brink of famine.

The UK is at the forefront of the international response to the crisis. Through the Humanitarian and Resilience Building in South Sudan programme, the Department for International Development will provide £443 million in humanitarian aid between 2015 and 2020 to support the provision of food, emergency shelter, and nutrition and health services, including our response to famine and severe food insecurity.
more like this

While we disagree with the US decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem and recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital before a final status agreement, we note the importance of President Trump's clear acknowledgement that the final status of Jerusalem, including the sovereign boundaries within the city, must be subject to negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians. In line with relevant Security Council Resolutions, we regard East Jerusalem as part of the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
more like this

star this property answer text
The Prime Minister has called modern slavery one of the great human rights challenges of our time, and has made eradicating this scourge one of her top foreign policy priorities. We have committed to doubling our aid spend in support of this objective to £150 million. In Libya, we have provided humanitarian aid to migrants and refugees and delivered assistance in detention centres. We are also increasing our engagement with the Libyan law enforcement authorities to tackle organised crime and trafficking. We have provided specific support to women and girls, to protect them from the heightened risks of trafficking and sexual and gender based violence. The UK regularly raises with the Libyan Government the need for wider respect for human rights and accountability.
more like this
