However, we also need to consider whether it is possible for children in foster care to take up the additional hours in a way that promotes the best interests of the child so I would like to work with local councils, fostering service providers and others in the sector to ensure we get the balance right. This is why we introduced the pupil premium in 2011 and invested over £11 billion, which includes almost £2.5 billion this year alone, in schools so that they can provide extra support to disadvantaged pupils of all abilities.</p><p> </p><p>The attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers has decreased both at age 11 and age 16 since 2011. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/12/2017 answer text <p>The Department published the outcomes of the consultation on implementing the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) on 19 July (<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/implementing-the-english-baccalaureate" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/implementing-the-english-baccalaureate</a>) alongside its EBacc equality analysis (<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/english-baccalaureate-equality-analysis" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/english-baccalaureate-equality-analysis</a>).</p><p>The EBacc policy aims to ensure that the vast majority of pupils, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds, take the EBacc subjects. Sutton Trust research<sup>1</sup> found that 300 secondary schools had transformed their Key Stage 4 curriculum between 2010 and 2013 in response to Government policy, achieving a rise in the proportion of pupils entering the EBacc from 8% to 48%. It also found that pupil premium students benefitted most from the changes at these schools.</p><p>The Department publishes entries into, and achievement of, the EBacc for pupils eligible for free school meals.
