unstar this property answer text <p>We will publish the Future Capabilities of the UK Steel sector study as soon as it has been finalised.</p><p> </p><p>The study, which involved the sector at all stages, was intended to support the UK steel sector identify future opportunities, in terms of domestic steel demand, within the UK market over the next 15 years. It should also help shape the steel sector’s proposal for a sector deal, under the Government’s Industrial Strategy. As well as generating policy considerations for the Government, including potentially around procurement practices, it will identify challenges which need to be addressed by the sector itself in order to capture these future opportunities.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Last December, the Government issued updated guidance to central government departments on how to ensure that they take full account of the value provided by UK steel producers when conducting their procurement activities; and extended this guidance to the wider public sector.</p><p> </p><p>Since publication of the guidance, the Government has been working closely with departments to monitor the impact and effectiveness of the guidance. Further work is ongoing to test the accuracy of the figures and therefore we are not in a position to publish the data publicly.</p><p>The Government also published its indicative future steel requirements to 2020 in December, to enable UK steel manufacturers to better plan and bid for government contracts:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/procurement-policy-note-1116-procuring-steel-in-major-projects-revised-guidance" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/procurement-policy-note-1116-procuring-steel-in-major-projects-revised-guidance</a></p><p> </p>

unstar this property answer text <p>This Government is committed to creating the right conditions in the UK for a competitive and sustainable steel industry. In December 2016 the Government published its future pipeline for steel requirements, indicating the quantities of steel expected to be required for major projects, including defence. This will enable UK steel manufacturers to better plan and bid for Government contracts.</p><p>Updated policy guidance on Government steel procurement was also published, which the Ministry of Defence has adopted, which encourages the public sector to take full account of the value provided by UK steel producers when conducting procurement activities.</p><p>The pipeline, together with the updated procurement policy, is published on gov.uk at the following link:</p><p>https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/procurement-policy-note-1116-procuring-steel-in-major-projects-revised-guidance.</p> more like this
