We call on those in the region with influence over Hamas to encourage them to take these steps. Whilst the UK has a policy of no contact with Hamas, it is ultimately a matter for the Israeli and Palestinian leadership to decide who should be involved in discussions to resolve the conflict. We are working alongside international partners to make urgent improvements in infrastructure, economic opportunities, energy and water, to support vulnerable Gazans today and avoid a serious crisis in the future. However as the United Nations report makes clear, aid alone cannot solve the problems in Gaza. We continue to press all parties on the need for a sustainable political solution for Gaza which will address Israel’s legitimate security concerns whilst opening up movement and access.
