There is a very strong commitment from the UK and Irish Governments to find a practical solution that recognises the unique circumstances on the land border between Northern Ireland and Ireland. Our work covers the breadth of the UK economy, and we are looking in detail at more than 50 sectors as well as areas of cross-cutting regulation. Parliament has agreed that we will not publish anything that would undermine the Government’s ability to negotiate the best deal for Britain. As a large trading nation, we possess a world-class customs system which handles imports and exports from all over the world, and not just the EU.</p><p>The government is seeking a mutually beneficial customs agreement and is committed to securing the most frictionless trading relationship possible.As part of this, HM Treasury and HMRC are giving due consideration to the implementation requirements of any options for the UK’s future customs arrangements.
