We have raised the matter with the Government of Uganda and the Uganda Human Rights Commission. We support the EU local statement of 16 December relating to these matters.</p><p>We have urged the Government of Uganda to complete a timely and transparent investigation into these incidents, in accordance with due process, rule of law, international legal obligation and in line with the commonwealth charter.</p><p>I visited Uganda in August 2016 and have followed this case. We continue to believe that a human rights compliant approach is the most effective way to secure long-term peace and stability. The British High Commission work closely with the Government of Uganda, civil society and human rights defenders to ensure human rights are respected in the country.
