They are assessed against available country of origin information, which is obtained from a range of reliable sources, including reputable media outlets; local, national and international organisations, including human rights organisations; and information from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.</p><p>Where people establish a genuine need for protection, we will grant it. If they are found not to need our protection, we expect them to leave the country voluntarily. Where they do not, we will seek to enforce their departure. Enforced removals are carried out in the most sensitive way possible, treating those being removed with respect and courtesy.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The maintenance requirements for Tier 4 (General) Students to cover living costs is set at the same level as the combined maximum maintenance loan and grant available to English students living away from home. These requirements are set out in paragraphs 153-176 of the Tier 4 Migrant Guidance.</p><p>All students need to meet the same maintenance requirements; however, some students are not required to provide documentation with their applications to confirm this, although the Home Office retain the right to request these documents at any point during the visa process. The details of this are set out in Appendix H of the Immigration Rules.</p><p>We will shortly be consulting on proposed changes to the non-EU work and study migration routes to see what more we can do to strengthen the system to support the best institutions – and those that stick to the rules – to attract the best talent.</p><p>Interested parties, including businesses and members of the education sector, will have the opportunity to engage with this consultation to help us get these reforms right.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Interviews are conducted with some international students as part of the visa application process in order to confirm that the applicant meets the requirements of the UK immigration rules, in particular that he or she is a genuine student. A number of different factors are taken into account to assess the potential level of risk that an applicant might pose to the UK border and these are used to determine whether or not an interview is required.</p><p>It is not possible to release the break down of country of origin of students that are interviewed as this would be prejudicial to the operation of immigration controls.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The independent Office for National Statistics has confirmed that the International Passenger Survey continues to be the best source of information to measure long-term international migration.</p><p>Data collected at the border does not record passengers' onward travel plans or duration of stay, so cannot be used to measure migration figures. Over time the data obtained through exit checks will contribute to the statistical picture and the ONS data on net migration figures, but it will not replace the current IPS survey.</p><p>We do not recognise the 1% figure as the proportion of international students that overstay. The Home Office is continuing to assess and analyse elements of the exit check data collected in relation to specific cohorts to understand the extent to which estimates provided are statistically robust. This level of detail is not yet available.</p> more like this
