Jeremy Hunt MP) announced a zero suicide ambition for the National Health Service, starting with mental health inpatients. Every NHS mental health provider was required to put in place a zero suicide policy during 2018/19. There has been significant progress made by trusts in developing zero suicide plans, with regional suicide prevention leads supporting trusts to finalise these.</p><p>For those requiring support for a mental health problem, under the NHS Long Term Plan, there will be a comprehensive expansion of mental health services, with an additional £2.3 billion in real terms by 2023/24.
