answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/10/2017 answer text <p>The UK is clear about its sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago, which it administers as the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), and strongly rejects Mauritius' claim that the Territory is part of Mauritius. This is a bilateral issue and we are committed to resolving it through bilateral discussions. We are disappointed that the UN General Assembly has referred this bilateral issue to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for an Advisory Opinion. This is an inappropriate use of the ICJ Advisory Opinion mechanism and sets an unwelcome precedent for other bilateral issues. This is reflected in the fact that over half of General Assembly members did not vote in favour of the resolution. A programme of events on the island is being arranged. Those visitors who were born in either Peros Banhos or Salomon will spend two days visiting those groups of islands before rejoining the other group members on Diego Garcia.</p><p>We expect a further two visits to take place before April 2018.
