answer text <p>For calendar year 2022, there were 7,358 transactions on the Government procurement card under £500 totalling £623.4k.</p><p> </p><p>For calendar year 2023, up to 30 November 2023, there were 6,792 transactions on the Government procurement card under £500 totalling £559.5k.</p><p> </p><p>I would note that procurement cards were introduced by the last Labour Government, who welcomed their use, saying they are a ‘good example of Government learning from the private sector’.</p><p> </p><p>Procurement cards assist with the reduction in procurement bureaucracy, boost efficiency, support the Government’s prompt payment initiative for Small and Medium businesses, and help maintain cash flow to suppliers.</p><p> </p><p>They are used as defined by the departmental procurement acquisition model, agreed by procurement and finance colleagues. Controls are in place that limit purchase types and values in line with individual departmental controls.</p><p> </p><p>Procurement cards are held by officials, not Ministers or Special Advisers.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>Government Procurement Cards provide an efficient route to enable key staff to procure goods and services, necessary to the promotion of British interests overseas and the maintenance of our embassies and high commissions. All purchases are subject to authorisation by managers and audit checks.</p><p>In the calendar year 2022 there were 133,292 transactions under £500. These transactions amounted to a total spend value of £13,563,777.20. This figure relates to spend on all Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office (FCDO) issued Government Procurement Cards and may therefore include costs eventually charged to the budgets of other Government Departments.</p> more like this
