answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/09/2015 answer text <p>Latest data from UCAS shows that the application rate to higher education for 18 years olds from disadvantaged backgrounds is at a record level. All institutions wishing to charge fees above the basic level must agree an Access Agreement with the independent Director of Fair Access (DFA) on their measures to widen access to higher education. This Government has extended the term of office for the current Director.</p><p>In his latest guidance to Institutions on how to produce access agreements the DFA has asked all Institutions with medical schools to consider the guidance on improving access to medical courses for those from lower socio-economic groups, developed by the Medical Schools Council and published in December 2014. The Secretary of State for International Development makes the most of opportunities to raise awareness of polio eradication efforts and, wherever appropriate, discusses polio with her international counterparts. For example, last year the Secretary of State for International Development made a key note speech at Rotary International with representatives from India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Indonesia, along with key polio campaigners and global health bodies.</p><p> </p><p>The UK continues to be a strong supporter of global polio eradication efforts. In 2013, the UK committed £300 million over six years to polio eradication, which will help vaccinate up to 360 million children. The UK actively participates in the global Polio Oversight Board, helping to ensure a strong focus on results and achieving eradication. As one of the top three donors to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, the UK leads by example. In 2013, the UK committed £300 million over six years to polio eradication, which will help vaccinate up to 360 million children.</p><p> </p><p>The UK will continue to encourage countries to donate to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to ensure that we have the required funding to successfully eradicate the disease before 2019. This emphasises the importance of emotional well-being and mental as well as physical health. Support to vulnerable groups, including looked-after children, was also a focus of the work leading up to the publication of <em>Future in Mind</em>.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>This report makes a valuable contribution to the development of policy and practice around how to improve the emotional wellbeing and mental health of looked-after children and care leavers. Promoting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of looked-after children is a key priority for this government. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/07/2015 answer text <p>The Government accepts in full the Pension Ombudsman’s recent determination regarding commutation factors used to calculate lump sum payments for certain firefighters and police officers. It also recognises that there are other individuals who are affected by the principles set out in this determination, and is working with pension administrators to identify these and ensure that appropriate payments are made as quickly as possible. The Government Actuary’s Department is preparing detailed guidance for administrators to aid them in calculating the amounts owed. They intend to issue this guidance, as well as tables of revised commutation factors, to administrators in the near future. The level of the allowance is kept under regular review.
