answer text
The Girl Summit, hosted by the Prime Minister and UNICEF in July 2014, underlined the United Kingdom’s leadership in stamping out forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).

We made forced marriage a criminal offence and the first conviction was secured last month. We also introduced a package of new measures to tackle FGM through the Serious Crime Act 2015 including victim anonymity, mandatory reporting of FGM, a new offence of parental liability and the introduction of FGM protection orders.

The Government recognises that legislation alone is not enough to tackle FGM and forced marriage, and our specialist FGM and Forced Marriage Units lead and deliver wide-ranging prevention and awareness-raising work.
more like this

answer text
The Government’s contribution to the five-year review of the Equality Act 2010 is a substantive memorandum intended to facilitate post-legislative scrutiny of the Act, which we aim to publish as a Command paper shortly.

The memorandum will provide Parliament with a factual account of developments since the Act received Royal Assent five years ago. This will include a summary of why the Act was introduced, a breakdown of which elements have or have not come into force, a list of associated secondary legislation, a summary of key case law and a preliminary assessment outlining whether the Act is achieving its stated aims. Parliament will consider this information before deciding whether to gather further evidence on how the Act is operating.

Further details of the Government’s approach to post-legislative scrutiny is available in the Cabinet Office’s Guide to Making Legislation at www.gov.uk/government/publications/guide-to-making-legislation

answer text
This Government opposes caste discrimination. We are aware of the Employment Appeal Tribunal judgment in the case of Tirkey v Chandok which opens the possibility that a legal remedy for claims of caste-associated discrimination already exists under current legislation, namely the ethnic origins element of Section 9 of the Equality Act 2010. We are considering the implications of the judgment for discrimination law and specifically for the duty on caste in Section 9 (5) of the Act.
more like this

answer text
The evaluation of the three-year pilot will consider the extent to which the fund removed barriers to disabled people’s participation in public life. The independent Administrator of the Fund is preparing a report with data on demand, the different types of support that applicants required, and the extent to which funding helped them compete on level terms with other candidates. Applicants have been invited to complete an online survey, the results of which are being collated. The report will be completed this month, when final claims have been settled for candidates who stood in the May 2015 General Election and Local Authority elections.
more like this
