answer text <p>The Government keeps all taxes under review as part of the usual tax policy making process. Tax changes, including changes to Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), are generally announced at the Autumn Budget, where decisions are taken in the round.</p><p> </p><p>SDLT is an important source of government revenue, raising several billion pounds each year to help pay the essential public services. Therefore, any changes to SDLT would have to be carefully considered given the potential effect on public finances.</p><p> </p><p>Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) was devolved to Scotland by the Scotland Act 2012 and subsequently replaced with the Land and Buildings Transaction Tax in April 2015.</p> more like this

answer text <p>HMRC publish quarterly and annual statistics on transaction volumes which are available on GOV.UK.</p><p> </p><p>At Autumn Statement 2014 the Government reformed the structure of Stamp Duty Land Tax, cutting the tax paid on all purchases of residential property to a value of £937,500, unless purchasing additional property – a reduction for 98% of those paying the tax.</p><p> </p><p>Housing market activity is affected by a wide variety of factors, of which Stamp Duty Land Tax is just one.</p> more like this

At Autumn Budget 2017, the Government removed Stamp Duty Land Tax for all first-time buyers purchasing properties up to £300,000 with the relief also extending to purchases worth up to £500,000. Since introduction, these changes have benefitted 121,500 households with one million households expected to benefit over the next five years.</p><p> </p><p>The Government keeps all taxes under review as part of the Budget process.</p> more like this

answer text <p>In the 2017-18 financial year HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) received 46,781 SDLT repayment claims, of which 4,668 were dealt with within 15 working days. At 2017-18 year end there were 2,550 SDLT repayment claims on hand that were outside 15 working days.</p><p> </p><p>A recovery plan has been implemented and the age profile and on hand volumes are now greatly reduced. Approximately 80% of Higher Rate Additional Dwellings repayments claims are now being dealt with within 15 working days, and HMRC expect the position to continue to improve.</p> more like this
