answer text <p>The Department’s response of 2 October 2019 to Question 290331 covered over 1,200 sites and not just our main headquarters building. However, I can confirm that the electricity supplied to our headquarters building has been sourced from solely renewable sources since 2010. The Department will consider further opportunities for increasing the proportion of energy that is sourced from renewable sources as and when contracts are renewed. We are encouraging our ALB’s to switch to renewable sources where they haven’t already.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Highways England collects data across its Strategic Road Network on the number of breakdown incidents managed by its regional control centres.</p><p> </p><p>To provide this information, Highways England has applied the following requirements as detailed below to then calculate the totals shown in the table.</p><p> </p><p>The data presented below summarises the number of incidents categorised as a ‘breakdown’ in their incident management logs. answer text <p>I talk regularly to Cabinet colleagues about a range of issues. In terms of improving the range of electric vehicles, the Government has committed £274m from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to the Faraday Battery Challenge to advance battery technology. This funding is supporting battery R&amp;D from the Faraday Institution’s academic research, through Innovate UK’s programme of collaborative applied R&amp;D, to scale-up in the cutting-edge UK Battery Industrialisation Centre. The aims of the Faraday Battery Challenge include improving the energy density of batteries, improving our understanding of temperature effects on range, and reducing battery costs which will make longer range electric vehicles more affordable.</p><p> </p><p>The Secretary of State is continuing to discuss with Cabinet colleagues what support the government might provide to industry to support the switch to zero emission vehicles.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department is working to address the problems street clutter can create for vulnerable pedestrians, in particular those with visual impairments.</p><p> </p><p>Local authorities are responsible for managing their roads, including the provision of street furniture. The Department provides good practice guidance in 'Inclusive Mobility' on access to pedestrian and transport infrastructure. Section 3 relates to access to footways, footpaths and pedestrian areas. ‘Inclusive Mobility’ is available at:</p><p> </p><p>www.gov.uk/government/publications/inclusive-mobility</p><p> </p><p>The Department is in the process of updating ‘Inclusive Mobility’, and has research underway to inform this. answer text <p>Network Rail is responsible for managing Japanese Knotweed in order to run a safe and reliable railway. The settlement agreed between my Department and Network Rail for England and Wales in the years 2019-2024 contains a substantial provision for operations and maintenance. This provides the funding for the removal of Japanese Knotweed.</p><p> </p><p>The government is committed to improving biodiversity in the UK. We have provided Network Rail with ambitious targets to enhance biodiversity across the lineside estate and they are currently developing a strategy to deliver on these ambitions.</p><p> </p><p>Rail infrastructure is a devolved matter in Scotland and Northern Ireland.</p> more like this
