answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/09/2018 answer text <p>The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) is not aware of having received any applications to date for public funding for representation at an inquest from the families of the victims of Stephen Port.</p><p> </p><p>When assessing such applications in general, the Director of Legal Aid Casework (DLAC) must have regard to the Lord Chancellor’s guidance set out under section 4(3) of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offender’s Act (LASPO) 2012. The criteria applied by the Legal Aid Agency are outlined under Section 10 of LASPO. The DLAC must also determine whether an applicant meets the financial eligibility test as provided in the Civil Legal Aid (Financial Resources and Payment for Services) Regulations 2013, or decide whether to waive financial eligibility and/or contribution to costs in whole or in part, as well as satisfy the merits criteria set out in the Civil Legal Aid (Merits Criteria) Regulations 2013.</p><p> </p><p>An application for legal aid may be submitted to the LAA in order for such a determination to be made.</p> answering member printed Lord Keen of Elie question first answered 19/09/2018 08:47:52 answering member 4538 label Biography information for Lord Keen of Elie

The Judicial College identifies the compulsory and essential minimum requirements for annual training plans, as well as any new or additional training needs. HM Courts and Tribunals Service (“HMCTS”) fund this training. It has been possible to reduce the cost of training magistrates, principally by discontinuing the use of external venues and delivering training at court centres. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/09/2018 answer text <p>HMPPS takes very seriously the health and safety of all staff working within prisons.</p><p>The Normal Pension Age (NPA) under the Civil Service pension scheme is linked to the individual member’s State Pension Age (SPA) and ranges from 65 to 68, based on their date of birth.</p><p>There are many factors which determine a person’s ability to pass a fitness test which could not be determined by their age alone.</p><p>Since 2007, when the NPA changed for new entrants to 65 under a Career Average Pension, HMPPS has been recruiting new Prison Officers in England and Wales in their sixties who have passed the fitness test and are performing their roles effectively. In addition, many staff who have the right to retire at 60 choose to work beyond their retirement age.</p><p>To become a Prison Officer you must pass a Recruitment Assessment Day (RAD) which consists of literacy and numeracy tests, situational judgment tests and physical and medical tests. These determine your suitability for the role and do not take into account a candidate’s age or gender. There are 4 elements of the fitness test including: grip, agility, bleep and holding a shield. All of these elements need to be passed for the candidate to pass the fitness part of the RAD.</p><p>All Prison Officers who joined the service after April 2001 must pass an annual fitness test in order to remain a prison officer.
