On 22 March 2017, the then Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice announced plans for the building of four new prisons in England and Wales, replacing old and overcrowded establishments with new, fit for purpose buildings. This is in addition to our plans to redevelop the sites at the former HMP Wellingborough and at HMP & YOI Glen Parva.

The plans include a new prison in Port Talbot in South Wales.
