They are available on the Sentencing Council website. They confirm that the gender of the offender is irrelevant for sentencing purposes in accordance with Equalities duties. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/10/2015 answer text <p>Since coming into office, I have received a large volume of correspondence and representations from individuals and organisations relating to education in prisons, much of which references both numeracy and literacy</p><p>We are committed to improving education in prisons including numeracy, this is why we have introduced mandatory assessment of Maths and English for all newly received prisoners. <br>The Secretary of State for Justice announced on 8th September a review of the quality of education in prisons, chaired by Dame Sally Coates. The review will examine the scope, quality and effectiveness of current provision. It will consider the scope and range of the current curricula and identify the most effective teaching and delivery models. Stakeholders are being consulted and a Call for Evidence has been issued. The review is expected to report in the spring of 2016. She will work with a panel of experts to produce proposals regarding the improvement of education in prisons and they will be visiting prisons to assess provision first hand.</p><br /><p>The review will examine the scope and quality of current provision in adult prisons and in young offender institutions for 18-20 year olds; review domestic and international evidence of what works well in prison education to support the rehabilitation of different segments of prison learners; and identify options for future models of education services in prisons</p><p><br> Peer support is already used in many prisons and is an important part of the rehabilitation process for all the individuals involved.
