answer text <p>Three Department for International Trade (DIT) Ministers have visited Northern Ireland since June 2022 and held bilateral discussions with the then Minister for the Economy, Gordon Lyons MLA. Discussions focused on the roll-out of DIT services to Northern Ireland businesses to help boost exports, including the UK Export Academy and UK Export Finance.</p><p> </p><p>My department is working in partnership with the Department for the Economy and Invest Northern Ireland to complement services available to businesses to support increasing international exports.</p> more like this

UK Officials have raised its concerns at many fora including at the International Whaling Commission and through Faroese representation in London. The Department for International Trade will continue to utilise the opportunities provided by our Trade Agreement to engage the Faroese authorities on this important matter, including through the Joint Committee of the agreement.</p><p> </p><p>Strong diplomatic and economic relationships with partners, enables us to have frank discussions on such issues.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department for International Trade (DIT) works closely with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to increase opportunities for UK beef, and in recent years unlocked barriers to enable exports to markets such as Japan, the Philippines, and the USA.</p><p> </p><p>DIT works with industry partners to deliver trade promotion activity to promote British beef globally, through trade shows, meet the buyer missions and other marketing activities.</p><p> </p><p>DIT has recently established a new trade and investment hub in Northern Ireland, that works closely with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Northern Ireland Meat Exporters Association, Ulster Farmers Union and Livestock and Meat Commission for Northern Ireland, in support of export goals.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We launched negotiations for an upgraded Free Trade Agreement with Israel in July and held the first round of technical discussions in Jerusalem on 12 – 20 September.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is clear that in negotiations we will not sacrifice quality for speed. We already have an existing deal providing tariff-free trade for 99% of the value of current goods trade. This upgraded agreement is fundamentally about adding ambitious coverage of services and procurement for a modern digital economy. We will only sign when we have a deal that is fair, reciprocal, and ultimately in the best interests of the British people and the economy.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department for International Trade (DIT) is currently delivering eight Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, and as of September 2022, had approximately 460 staff working in the Trade Negotiations Group. It is not possible to comment on specific negotiations as the number of staff working on each FTA changes depending on the stage and scale of the deal, and to maximise efficiency. Staff also work across multiple negotiations.</p><p> </p><p>DIT allocated £46.3m in 2022-23 for the negotiation and implementation of FTAs, however, it is not possible to identify funding for individual FTAs.</p> more like this

answer text <p>An enhanced agreement would expand a trading relationship already worth £5 billion per year. By reducing trade barriers, it could lead to gains in services trade and could benefit around 6,600 UK businesses that export goods to Israel and employed over 1.7 million people in 2020, including around 5,600 small and medium-sized enterprises. answer text <p>On 20 July, negotiations were launched between the UK and Israel for an upgraded, innovation-focused Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that supported trade in services, digital and procurement. As part of this, our strategic approach to the negotiations was published on <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-approach-to-negotiating-a-free-trade-agreement-with-israel" target="_blank">GOV.UK</a>. This document sets out the UK’s key objectives in these negotiations.</p><p> </p><p>An upgraded FTA with Israel will modernise our trade relations with a growing economy, whose services sector has grown by over 45% in the last decade, and whose total imports are expected to double by 2035.</p> more like this
