answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/03/2019 answer text <p>DIT is leading on Government’s shared intent to safeguard the UK’s position as a world-leading destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).</p><p> </p><p>The UK has many strengths that attract investors: an open, liberal economy, world-class talent and a business-friendly environment. The most recent data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) ranked the UK as third globally for FDI in 2017—and the number one destination in Europe, ahead of Germany.</p><p> </p><p>DIT is supporting investment into local communities by targeting promotional support towards projects with the greatest potential to maximise national wealth and value for money. As part of this approach, DIT is working with local partners to systematically identify emerging clusters, sub-sectors, supply chain gaps or other ‘High Potential Opportunities’ where lack of market information is leading to structural under-investment. We are committed to continuing to increase bilateral trade with South Africa, including by transitioning the current trading arrangements as the UK leaves the EU. Total trade in goods and services between the UK and South Africa was £8.8bn in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2018, an increase of 4.4% from the previous four quarters. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/02/2019 answer text <p>Total trade between UK and South Korea was £14.9bn in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2018, an increase of 8.4% from the previous four quarters.</p><p> </p><p>As we leave the EU we are working to ensure trade can continue to grow by securing continuity of South Korea’s FTA with the EU. Technical work is progressing well through the UK-Korea Trade Working Group, which was established by ministers in December 2016.</p><p> </p><p>There is a broad sanctions regime in place on North Korea that prohibits trade in a number of sectors. Recently we’ve secured market access for UK dairy products to China, worth £240m over five years, and beef and lamb to Japan, worth £127m over five years. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/01/2019 answer text <p>The Government works actively to support trade and reduce barriers in all three countries, including through our overseas network and HM Trade Commissioners, through ministerial visits and bilateral working groups, and through the broad support this Department provides both to UK companies exporting to these countries and to those overseas companies wishing to invest in the UK. This work is intensifying as we leave the EU.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the Government is preparing for an ambitious programme of trade negotiations and enhanced market access, including potentially opening formal negotiations for new free trade agreements with the United States and Australia. We have completed 14-week long public consultations on these potential future trade agreement negotiations. We are also building stronger relationships with large economies through a series of Joint Trade Reviews. This includes through Government officials and the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Tunisia, Dr Andrew Murrison MP, who engage key Tunisian stakeholders in support of UK businesses. UK Export Finance has significant capacity to support UK exports to Tunisia.</p><p> </p><p>DIT also works closely with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Department for International Development to advance our trade relationship with Tunisia, and Ministers from both departments have included trade in their engagement with counterparts when visiting Tunisia.</p><p> </p><p>DIT and FCO officials have been in regular dialogue with Tunisia to achieve continuity of existing trading arrangements by replicating the effects of the existing EU-Tunisia Association Agreement. We will inform Parliament and the public when an agreement has been signed. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/01/2019 answer text <p>The UK produces billions of pounds worth of high-quality goods and services each year, and there is a clear demand from around the world for these products with UK exports rising 2.0% (12bn) to <strong>£626.4bn</strong>, in the 12 months ending October 2018. [<em>ONS UK Trade: October 2018</em>]. The Export Strategy, launched in August 2018, sets out how the Government will encourage, inform, connect and finance UK businesses to enable them to take advantage of this international demand.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for International Trade’s offer to UK businesses includes impartial export advice from International Trade Advisors and our overseas network in markets across the world. British businesses are also promoted via the government’s network of Trade Envoys and given assistance in the Midlands and Northern Powerhouse through our Export Champions.</p><p> </p><p>The Department also runs a major UK facing marketing campaign called “Exporting is Great” which inspires and encourages business to start exporting and seek new markets. In March 2018, my Rt Hon. Friend the Secretary of State for International Trade co-chaired the tenth UK-Brazil Joint Economic and Trade Committee with the Brazilian Minister for Industry, Foreign Trade and Services. The ministers reiterated their commitment to facilitating increased trade, creating opportunities and enhancing bilateral economic relations. In August 2018, the 3<sup>rd</sup> UK-Brazil Economic and Financial Dialogue achieved advances across several areas including procurement, tax, infrastructure and finance.
