answer text <p>The Department for International Trade (DIT) plays a critical role in promoting the UK as the natural choice for overseas investment. The Department provides support to inward investors who wish to set up in the UK.</p><p> </p><p>These services range from providing information, guidance and support on the UK business environment, to access to finance, talent and skills, visas and migration, research and innovation, and sector experts.</p><p> </p><p>DIT also provides an end-to-end service for investors, through initiatives such as the Strategic Relationship Management Programme, both in the UK and overseas, working with colleagues across government, in London, UK regions and Devolved Administrations. This suite of services helps investors prosper and succeed, which in turn leads them to reinvest further in the UK. The UK has the highest stock of FDI of any nation in Europe.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK enjoys a strong trade and investment relationship with Kenya. In September I discussed bilateral trade with His Excellency Manoah Esipisu the Kenyan High Commissioner to the UK. answer text <p>The UK is preparing to strengthen its trade ties with international partners, including China and India post EU-exit.</p><p> </p><p>In January 2018, the UK and China launched a Joint Trade and Investment Review to explore options to enhance their trade and investment relationship, without pre-judging outcomes. My Rt Hon. Friend the Secretary of State for International Trade visited China five times in 2018 to discuss our ambition for a strong trade partnership.</p><p> </p><p>The UK-India Joint Trade Review, announced during the Prime Minister’s visit to India in 2016, has helped us better understand the UK-India trade relationship. In April 2018, both Prime Ministers agreed to forge a new trade partnership, to take forward recommendations from the Review. This work is being progressed through the Joint Working Group on trade which has met eight times since November 2016.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK is committed to negotiating an ambitious free trade agreement with the United States as soon as we have left the European Union. The President and Prime Minister have made clear on a number of occasions, including during the recent State Visit, their shared commitment to an ambitious, wide-ranging free trade deal that reflects the strength of our bilateral relationship.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for International Trade will commence the sixth Trade and Investment Working Group with officials from United States Trade Representative in early-July. answer text <p>The Tech Nation 2019 report, states that the UK attracts more VC tech investment than anywhere else in Europe, with £6.3 billion raised in 2018.</p><p> </p><p>During London Tech Week, June 2019, DIT hosted 20 delegations from our international Posts consisting of 600 innovative tech companies keen to invest and scale up in the UK and secured £1.2 billion of new FDI announcements creating 850 new jobs.</p><p> </p><p>Through the AI Sector Deal, this government is actively supporting the development of talent, nationwide, ensuring that this position is strengthened and investment in AI, exceeding £3.8 billion, continues to grow.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Trade with East Asia is increasing. Leaving the EU is an opportunity to strengthen relationships further including securing continuity of South Korea's EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and engaging with Japan on a future trade agreement that will be as ambitious, high standard and mutually beneficial as the Japan-EU EPA, on which it will be based.</p><p>The Government works actively to support UK exporters and East Asian companies investing in the UK through our overseas network led by HM Trade Commissioners for Asia Pacific and China, bilateral working groups and ministerial engagement; DIT Ministers undertook ten visits to the region last year.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Our priority is securing a deal with the European Union as this will avoid disruption to our global trading relationships. Until that deal is in place, we must prepare for all eventualities. The Government has set out what issues business, including exporting businesses, need to consider in a no-deal scenario and the Public Information Campaign directs business to that information on GOV.UK.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for International Trade’s frontline International Trade Advisers are regularly updated with the latest GOV.UK updates and information to help SMEs across England prepare for leaving the EU. International Trade Advisers are using this information to ensure SMEs are promptly referred to the latest available EU Exit business readiness information, including the HMRC Partnership Pack. My Department is also working closely with our counterparts in the Devolved Administrations to ensure that similar guidance is available to SMEs in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.</p><p> </p><p>In addition my Department continues to work closely with BEIS and HMRC to ensure that the published Public Information Campaign guidance is widely circulated. My Department has briefed Business Representative Organisations, including the BCC and CBI, on the support available to help companies prepare for the UK leaving the EU. Other Government Departments are also supporting this cross-Government effort to help SMEs as they prepare for leaving the EU. This includes a BEIS business readiness bulletin for trade associations, business representative bodies and business intermediaries and HMRC webinars for SMEs.</p>
