answer text <p>The Department is already increasing staff levels to support future trade negotiations.</p><p>Since July 2016 our Trade Policy Group has grown significantly from 45 to around 400 today. The Group includes lawyers, analysts, trade policy and country specialists drawn from across all relevant Government departments that will be involved in developing policy for and negotiating trade deals.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department for International Trade is building a world-class trade policy and negotiations capability for the long-term future of our country.</p><p> </p><p>Since July 2016 our Trade Policy Group has grown significantly from 45 to over 400 today, and is continuing to grow.</p><p> </p><p>We have also established a series of working groups and high-level dialogues with key trade partners to explore the best ways of progressing our trade and investment relationships. These partners include the United States, Australia, Mexico and Japan.</p> more like this

answer text <p>When recruiting civil servants, managers are able to review candidates’ previous experience and career history as part of our recruitment policies and campaigns. As a result, the Department for International Trade (DIT) has a strong and capable trade policy team which has grown significantly since its establishment in July 2016 and is continuing to grow.</p><p> </p><p>DIT has almost 3,600 staff, including our ‘Trade Policy Group’ of over 400 people.</p><p> </p><p>Over the summer, we also recruited internationally recognised expert Crawford Falconer as DIT’s Chief Trade Negotiation Adviser and Second Permanent Secretary. With more than 25 years of public service experience in trade and foreign affairs, Falconer will support the establishment of a world-class trade negotiation function and lead the development of a new International Trade profession for trade negotiators and will bolster the Civil Service’s trade negotiation skills.</p> more like this
