answer text <p>The proposal to create a new Infrastructure Levy, as set out in the <em>Planning for the Future</em> White Paper, will support a more streamlined and accessible planning system. Sustainable transport systems make a positive contribution to the environmental, social and economic sustainability of the communities they serve. The new Levy will raise at least as much value as is currently captured through Community Infrastructure Levy and section 106 and will continue to be collected and spent at the local level, on priorities including infrastructure and affordable housing. <br> <br> The White Paper also sets out that when authorities are identifying land or future development through Local Plans, it will be important for them to consider how to most effectively support climate change mitigation and adaptation, including, for example, the ability to maximise walking, cycling and public transport opportunities.</p> more like this

answer text <p>As part of the work on the National Model Design Code (NMDC) the Department is working closely with the Department for Transport to take forward the Government’s ambitions for sustainable transport, taking into account the need for shared mobility solutions and public transport. This includes close joint working on the NMDC and the update to the Manual for Streets. The Department is also producing Planning Practice Guidance on Sustainable Transport and Accessibility which will set out how sustainable transport should be considered as part of the evidence base for local plans. This guidance will be published in due course.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is committed to promoting sustainable travel as part of the work to tackle climate change and achieve net zero by 2050. The Department has been working closely with the Department for Transport on the Government’s ambitions to promote public transport, active travel and decarbonisation objectives. The National Planning Policy Framework sets out policies for promoting sustainable transport to be taken into account in plan making and decision taking. We will continue to work with the Department for Transport to ensure the planning system aligns with, and helps to deliver, the Government ambitions for sustainable transport.</p> more like this
