answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/09/2020 answer text <p>We are introducing the Hong Kong British National (Overseas) Visa to give BN(O) citizens and their dependants an opportunity to settle in the United Kingdom, in recognition of their historic ties to the UK and China’s breech of its previous commitments through the introduction of new national security legislation.</p><p>Many people in Hong Kong chose to register for BN(O) status, electing to retain their ties with the UK and a British Identity. However, a child born on or after 1 July 1997 to BN(O) parents would not have had the opportunity to be registered for BN(O) status. We do not wish to split family units and therefore the children of a BN(O) citizen who fall into this category and who form part of the same household will be able to apply for this Visa alongside their BN(O) parent.</p><p>Individuals from Hong Kong not eligible for the specific route for British National (Overseas) will still be able to apply to come to the UK under the terms of the UK’s new Points Based System, which will enable individuals to come to the UK in a wider range of professions than in the past. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/10/2020 answer text <p>There is no provision within our Immigration Rules for someone to be allowed to travel to the UK to seek asylum or temporary refuge.</p><p>All asylum claims must be lodged in-country and we have no plans to amend this. However, all asylum claims made in the UK are judged on their individual merits. Asylum seekers have by definition applied for the right to remain and they will usually have the right to work and the right to study if certain conditions are met.</p><p>The UK Government is introducing a new immigration route for British National (Overseas) citizens in Hong Kong, providing the opportunity for them and their family members to live, work and study in the UK. The family member (partner, parent, child, or adult dependent relative) must make a valid application and meet the requirements under Appendix FM. The government will carefully assess the impact of these measures in preventing transmission of coronavirus in the UK.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The need for the restrictions, and the requirements imposed, will be reviewed in line with social distancing measures, currently every three weeks. That is why we strengthened the law by making stalking an offence in its own right, introduced a new civil stalking protection order and are currently taking our landmark Domestic Abuse Bill through Parliament.</p><p> </p><p>Serial stalking and domestic abuse perpetrators are already on existing systems such as ViSOR (the dangerous persons database) and can be managed through Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements. We are working closely with domestic abuse charities, the Domestic Abuse Commissioner and the police to understand the impact of COVID-19 on domestic abuse incidents.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has announced £28m of funding to support domestic abuse charities. The Home Office has announced an additional £2 million in funding to help bolster specialist helplines and online services so that victims can continue to seek support.</p><p> </p><p>We have also launched a campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse and signpost victims to the support services available. The campaign, under the hashtag #YouAreNotAlone, aims to reassure those affected by domestic abuse that support services remain available during this difficult time.
