The CQC provides assurance that health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate high-quality care and encourage care services to improve. The CQC monitor, inspect and regulate services against meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and the CQC publish what it finds to help people choose care.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The CQC impact assessment on changes to the way they regulate and inspect services, published in September 2014, sets out the estimated costs and benefits of its new inspection model. In its Business Plan 2015-16, the CQC describes how it will continue to improve its effectiveness, and be a regulator that supports changes in health and social care. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/06/2015 answer text <p>National Health Service spend on agency and contract staff for 2013/14 is £3.34 billion[1].</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Following the Francis[2] report many trusts increased their spend on temporary staffing to meet safe staffing levels. The Department expects trusts to have a strong grip on their finances, and manage their contract and agency staffing spend (including use of locums) responsibly through effective and efficient workforce planning and management and to minimise temporary staffing costs in future years.</p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>The Government is clear that the current rate of spending is not supporting the best positive outcome for patients. The Secretary of State has announced a comprehensive package of measures to address the problem including:</p><p> </p><p>- setting a maximum hourly rate for doctors and nurses;</p><p> </p><p>- banning the use of agencies that are not approved;</p><p> </p><p>- putting a cap on total agency staff spending for each NHS trust in financial difficulty; and</p><p> </p><p>- requiring specific approval for any expensive consultancy contracts over £50,000.</p><p> </p><br /><p>[1] The 2014/15 figures reflect data collected from NHS trusts and foundation trusts as part of the Q4 data collection which is unpublished and unaudited. Whilst this data would not ordinarily be provided as part of a Parliamentary Question contribution, it has been included within this response as both Monitor and NHS Trust Development Authority have separately released data relating to temporary agency staff spend. It should be noted that their figures vary slightly from those included above. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/06/2015 answer text <p>Taking paracetamol in quantities which exceed the recommended dose is extremely dangerous. It can cause irreparable damage to the liver and can be fatal. All medicines, including those bought over-the-counter, must be used responsibly and as advised in the information provided with the medicine. Packs of paracetamol have warnings that medical advice should be sought immediately in the event of an overdose, even if the person feels well.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There is a restriction on the quantity of paracetamol tablets/capsules in a pack (16 tablets for sale from general retail outlets, e.g. a supermarket and 32 tablets for sale from pharmacists).</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There is also guidance for retailers not to sell more than two packs in one transaction to strongly discourage multiple sales and multibuy promotions. It is illegal to sell more than 100 tablets or capsules of either paracetamol or aspirin in any one retail transaction.
