To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what estimate has been made of the number of transplant operations failing due to patients not being able to afford to pay for prescriptions; and if he will bring forward free prescriptions for people who have had transplants.

NHS England does not have information to suggest that there are failures of transplanted organs associated with patients being unable to afford prescription charges. The Department has no current plans to amend prescription charge exemption arrangements. 90% of prescription items are dispensed free of charge and to support those with greatest need who do not qualify for an exemption, prescription prepayment certificates are available. A holder of a 12 month certificate can get all the prescriptions they need for £2 per week.
