National Health Service trusts and foundation trusts spend around 60% of their entire expenditure on pay. NHS pay systems have an inbuilt pressure because of incremental pay of around £790 million a year. The value of increments for non-medical staff employed under the national Agenda for Change pay framework ranges from £176 to £4,599; and from 1.0% to 6.7%, which is in additional to annual pay awards.</p>

The Government is committed to ensuring they can continue to deliver world-class patient care.</p><p>At Summer Budget 2015, it was announced that the Government will fund public sector workforces for an average annual pay increase of 1% for the four years from 2016-17 onwards. answer text <p>In setting the public sector pay policy, the Government struck a balance between giving hard working staff a pay rise and the need to exercise restraint in public spending.</p><p> </p><p>The independent NHS Pay Review Body and the independent Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration took evidence from the Government, NHS Employers, National Health Service trade unions and other stakeholders and made recommendations on the level of pay needed to recruit and retain NHS staff.</p><p> </p><p>This year the Government accepted the Review Bodies’ recommendations of a pay rise of 1% for all staff groups.</p> more like this
