answer text
The UK is leading with partners and allies to: support an effective and co-ordinated global health response led by the World Health Organisation, reinforce the resilience of vulnerable countries, pursue a vaccine, and support the global economy. The Foreign Secretary spoke to the UN Secretary-General on these priorities on 5 May. The UK is working together with international partners to achieve these objectives, including with the G7, G20, the UN and other multilateral institutions, in order to ensure a stronger institutional response to the current crisis, and greater resilience against future threats. Officials in Geneva and New York are in regular contact with the UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes on their contributions to the crisis response including future crisis preparedness. This included co-sponsoring a Mexican resolution in the General Assembly on access to medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
more like this

The sale and consumption of dog meat is legal in many countries, including China, and there are no international norms, laws or agreements governing this. We believe that it is necessary to work with governments around the world to gain agreement on animal welfare standards, and to phase out cruel and inhumane practices. There is no suggestion that the event will break any local or international laws.
more like this

We remain concerned about infringements and restrictions on freedom of religion or belief, including restrictions on Christian school opening days, and the demolition of churches. We consistently raise our concerns with the Government of Sudan, most recently in meetings with senior Government officials on 11 February. answer text
The UK strongly supports the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), and we continue to work with the UN and the Department for Peacekeeping Operations to improve the capabilities of the mission to effectively carry out its mandate. As a result of our efforts on this, the UN Security Council passed resolution 2304 in August 2016, which mandated the deployment of 4000 extra troops for UNMISS as a Regional Protection Force for Juba. We continue to urge the Government of South Sudan to fulfil their commitment to accommodate this deployment, and encourage the troop contributing countries to accelerate preparations. We are also currently in the process of deploying 379 UK troops to UNMISS. They will carry out vital engineering and advisory support, and will set up a field hospital in Bentiu.
more like this
