The protection of civilians must be at the forefront of efforts to combat insurgency and insecurity, including to build trust between local communities and the security forces.</p><p>We have raised our concerns about alleged attacks by security forces on civilians directly with the President during the recent visit of the UN Security Council to Burkina Faso; urged his government to ensure its security forces comply with international standards; and called for an investigation to ensure those found responsible are held accountable. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/04/2019 answer text <p>Ahead of the elections in Thailand on Sunday 24 March, the UK engaged in regular dialogue at Ministerial and senior official level with the Thai authorities and urged them to embrace a free and open environment in which elections could occur, including during Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha's meeting with the Prime Minister in June 2018.</p><p>Following the elections on Sunday, I issued a statement welcoming the fact that elections had taken place and highlighted that it was important that any reported irregularities were investigated swiftly, fairly and transparently. I also emphasised that the process of government formation should be conducted in a proper and open manner, and reflect what people voted for.</p><p>The UK remains concerned about the human rights situation in Thailand, and the Embassy in Bangkok regularly uses meetings with the Thai government to raise human rights concerns. This includes the right of human rights defenders to carry out work without fear of harassment or reprisals and the importance of full implementation of UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.</p><p>In its statement at the Human Rights Council on 7 March, the UK called on Thailand to sign the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees, and to maintain space for all voices to be heard in the election campaign.</p><p>The UK continues to support the right of the media to operate in a free and open manner in Thailand.</p> answering member constituency Cities of London and Westminster answering member printed Mark Field question first answered 02/04/2019 15:25:48 answering member 1405 label Biography information for Mark Field

Our Ambassador met the Haitian Foreign Minister on 18 January 2019 to discuss the situation. Our Ambassador meets Haitian leaders on her regular visits, and during March 2019 she also held discussions with the UN Secretary General's Special Representative in Haiti and a visiting International Monetary Fund Mission. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/04/2019 answer text <p>​On 21 March the UK introduced a new Resolution rolling over Sri Lanka's commitments on post conflict reconciliation and accountability at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The resolution was adopted by consensus, with 42 co-sponsors, including Sri Lanka.</p><p> </p><p>The new Resolution reaffirms Sri Lanka's commitments under Resolution 30/1, which welcomes the intention of the Government of Sri Lanka to establish a judicial mechanism to investigate allegations of violations and abuses, including the importance of independent and impartial institutions to ensure the credibility of the mechanisms of the participation of foreign judges, defence lawyers, and authorises prosecutors and investigators. This supports the most vulnerable people in Kenya, including in Turkana.
