answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/07/2014 answer text <p>The UK is working with the Kenyan Human Rights Commission, the Mau Mau War Veterans Association, the Nairobi Governor’s Office, and the National Museums of Kenya to make sure the proposed memorial is as inclusive as possible and promotes reconciliation. The Overseas Service Pensioners’ Association (OSPA) has also been fully consulted. <br><br>The first plaque will state: ‘This memorial is a symbol of reconciliation between the British Government, the Mau Mau, and all those who suffered during the Emergency Period’. <br><br>The proposed title of the memorial is: ‘Memorial to the Victims of Torture and Ill-Treatment during the Colonial Era (1952-1963)’. This reflects the wording of the settlement agreement and the announcement made by the then Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. The UK also considers that Israel’s detention of Palestinian prisoners within Israel is contrary to Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention and have clearly stated this position to Israeli officials. International law does not impose direct obligations on corporations. However, the Government encourages British companies to show respect for human rights in their operations in the UK and internationally. On 21 April 2013, G4S publicly confirmed that they would not renew a number of security contracts in the West Bank ‘to ensure that G4S Israel business practices remain in line with our own business ethics policy’. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron), visited Kazakhstan last year and had a wide ranging discussion on human rights with President Nazarbayev. The former Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my Rt. Hon. Friend the Member for Richmond (Yorks) (Mr Hague), raised human rights concerns with the Kazakhstani Foreign Minister during the latter’s visit to London in November last year. My Rt. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/09/2014 answer text <p>We were deeply concerned by the labour clashes in western Kazakhstan in December 2011.</p><p>In November in a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan the then Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my Rt. Hon. We enjoy a close and productive relationship with Israel which enables us to express our views at senior levels very frankly. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/09/2014 answer text <p>I met human rights groups before and during my visit to Colombia last month, and one of these groups was specifically focussed on trade unions.</p><p>The British Embassy does a lot of excellent work on human rights with Colombian authorities, not least on specific cases related to trades unions and on the issue of impunity, and it will continue to do so. The Embassy has, for example, raised the murders of FENSUAGRO and Patriotic March members with the Vice-President’s office. Following this, on 26 June, the Vice-President’s Office stated that they were following up these cases with the Ministry of Defence, the Army, the Attorney General’s Office, the Inspector General’s Office and the National Protection Unit.
