We have raised the case with the Malaysian government on several occasions. Most recently, a senior FCO official raised the case at ministerial level during her visit to Kuala Lumpur in November 2017.</p><p>The British Government is firmly committed to standing up for freedom of religion, and for individuals to practice their beliefs free from fear. The UK has only occasional contact with the PYD, which we use to discuss the situation in Syria.</p><p>We are calling for de-escalation and protection of civilians. On 5th March, the Human Rights Council, in Geneva paved a resolution introduced by the UK on the situation in Eastern Ghouta. On 27 February, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas Sir Alan Duncan met Russian Ambassador to the UK, Alexander Yakovenko, stressing UK concern at the current situation in Syria, particularly the crisis in Eastern Ghouta. Officials at our Posts in Iraq are pressing this message, as are UK ministers. The Foreign Secretary spoke to Prime Minister Abadi on 6 February and emphasised the need for an agreement on the management of border security, thereby enabling international flights into the Kurdistan Region to re-start. Our Embassies engage regularly with British citizens living in their host Member States. Particularly since the EU Referendum, we have been reaching out to UK nationals in the EU at frequent meetings, events and online. We are encouraging UK nationals to follow the ‘UK nationals in the EU’ page on <a href="http://www.gov.uk/" target="_blank">www.gov.uk</a> and to follow Embassy social media channels for the latest information on the UK’s withdrawal from the EU.
