Already FWF is shaping new investment in collective water action in over 60 UK food and drink retailers in water-scarce regions of Peru, Kenya and Morocco, reforming procurement, regulation and investment policy in Panama, Madagascar, Finland and the Netherlands, and strengthening the voice of vulnerable communities in Malawi. This includes the Community Resilience Partnership Programme which will help empower local communities and grassroots women's groups in Asia and the Pacific. We are also investing in programmes to build women's climate resilience through our Conflict, Stability and Security Fund. In 2022, the FCDO launched a new approach to addressing the climate, environment and biodiversity crisis in and through girls' education. Our resourcing and senior representation within the FCDO on climate and environment has grown significantly in recent years. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/05/2022 answer text <p>The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) latest report makes clear that the window to keep 1.5 degrees alive is closing alarmingly fast. However, there are early signs of hope. For the first time, the IPCC scientists tell us that while emissions continue to rise, this growth is starting to slow. This shows that our policies and actions are starting to work. We must seize this opportunity, and double down now to accelerate action. The report also highlights the economic opportunities from the transition to a net zero economy, with the falling costs of renewable energy, and comes six months after the UK published its own comprehensive Net Zero Strategy.</p><p>The UK is encouraging all countries to revisit and strengthen their 2030 targets, as necessary, to align with the Paris Agreement temperature goal, and to do this by the end of 2022, following the agreement reached in the Glasgow Climate Pact (GCP). As COP Presidency, the UK is leading by example and considering our own response. We will publish any updates to our Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) ahead of COP27. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/03/2021 answer text <p>The Integrated Review which was launched on 16 March by the Prime Minister, states that in 2021 and beyond, Her Majesty's Government will make tackling climate change and biodiversity loss its number one international priority and the Foreign Secretary will take the necessary steps to deliver on this. The UK is working closely with international partners to assess and reduce the risk of climate change both globally and in the UK. The Foreign Secretary and FCDO ministers regularly raise the subject in engagements with international partners. In December the UK co-hosted the Climate Ambition Summit where 75 leaders, as well as businesses pledged new and more ambitious commitments to tackle climate change. On 31 March, COP President-Designate Alok Sharma and the Foreign Secretary will host the Climate Development Ministerial which will bring together countries and partners to identify practical solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing vulnerable countries.</p><p>Domestically the Prime Minister's 10 Point Plan accelerates the UK's transition to Net-Zero. On 4 December 2020 we announced an ambitious new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 68% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. This target commits the UK to the fastest rate of emissions reductions of any major economy. The Foreign Secretary and FCDO ministers regularly raise the subject in their engagements with a wide range of governments. On 31 March, COP President-Designate Alok Sharma and the Foreign Secretary will host the Climate Development Ministerial which will bring together countries and partners including in the global South to identify practical solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing vulnerable countries.</p><p>Since 2011 we have helped over 66m people cope with the effects of climate change and natural disasters, and provided 33m people with improved access to clean energy. We actively encourage countries to commit financial support for developing countries most vulnerable to climate change. The UK leads by example - the Prime Minister committed to doubling UK International Climate Finance to £11.6bn over the next 5 years. On 25 January the UK launched an Adaptation Action Coalition to mobilise action on adaptation and galvanise momentum ahead of COP. We are in consultation with our G7 partners on plans for coordinating our objectives and work on climate change issues. We are committed to placing climate and nature at the heart of the multilateral agenda, and plan to mainstream climate and environmental policy across the G7. This will include supporting the transition to a low carbon economy through increased investment and cooperation in green technologies; as well as looking at ways to enhance and promote sustainable trade as we seek to join forces to protect the planet. The UK has itself taken an important first step towards more sustainable trade by lowering tariffs on environmental goods under the UK Global Tariff.
