answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/07/2019 answer text <p>The Department for Exiting the European Union was set up as a time limited department and as such the majority of staff are employed on 2-year fixed term contracts or are loaned from other Government Departments on a similar basis. The increase in numbers of leavers towards the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 is mainly due to planned leavers moving to other government departments following the end of their pre-set loan agreement or job rotation, or have left the civil service following the end of their 2-year fixed-term appointment. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/07/2019 answer text <p>No such assurances have been sought from the EU, for a scenario where the UK leaves the EU without a deal, as the Government remains committed to seeking an agreement. The Government and the European Commission have been clear that our ​trading relationship must comply with WTO rules. GATT Article XXIV is the provision which allows WTO members to form free trade areas or customs unions, or to adopt an interim agreement necessary for the formation of a customs union or of a free trade area. It relates solely to trade in goods. However, it is the responsible thing to prepare for all eventualities. We have therefore ensured we are ready to cooperate with European partners in areas such as security, air transport and medicines, and that the whole UK family, including Gibraltar and the Sovereign Base Areas, will be prepared in the event of a 'no deal'. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/07/2019 answer text <p>As a responsible government we have been preparing for the UK’s exit from the EU in all scenarios for nearly three years. A no deal exit remains the legal default at the end of the extension period on 31 October unless a deal is agreed.</p><p>DExEU has a vital coordination role to play in these preparations. We maintain a single picture of workstreams, policy proposals and delivery implications across government to inform policy development. This allows us to scrutinise domestic policy solutions and delivery plans that departments develop - ensuring coherence and recommending cross-cutting solutions to drive delivery forward.</p><p>Over 300 work-streams to prepare for ‘no deal’ continue to be advanced across Government, to minimise disruption to industry, to our vital services, and to the daily lives of the people of the United Kingdom. In light of the extension, departments are making sensible decisions about the timing and pace at which some of this work is progressing and what further action can be taken, but we will continue to prepare for all EU Exit scenarios.</p><p>We continue to make good progress - for example:</p><ul><li><p>Since December 2018, HMRC has issued 74,000 new EORI numbers to traders (as of 23 June).</p></li><li><p>We have published approximately 750 pieces of communications on no deal since August 2018, including 106 technical notices explaining to businesses and citizens what they need to do to prepare.</p></li><li><p>The EU Settlement Scheme is now fully opened with over 800,000 applications so far.</p></li></ul><p> </p> answering member constituency Braintree answering member printed James Cleverly question first answered 02/07/2019 15:37:45 answering member 4366 label Biography information for James Cleverly
