answer text
Our proposals are for a common rulebook for goods, covering those rules necessary to ensure that there is frictionless trade at the border, alongside a business-friendly facilitated customs arrangement. This is in the interest of both EU and the UK and will enable us to protect integrated supply chains and meet our joint commitment on the Ireland-Northern Ireland border.

As part of the agreement, the UK would also seek participation in relevant EU technical committees and agencies that have a role in designing and implementing rules that form part of the common rulebook. Where the UK has chosen to apply a common rulebook Parliament would have a lock on incorporating rules into the UK legal order, recognising that choosing not to pass the relevant legislation would have consequences.
more like this

answer text
We are fully focused on making the UK’s exit from the EU, and our new trading relationship with the world, a success. The Government has been undertaking rigorous and extensive analysis work to support our exit negotiations, in order to inform our understanding of how EU exit will affect the UK’s domestic policies and frameworks.

In our negotiations with the EU, the UK is seeking to secure a new, deep and special partnership. We propose the greatest possible tariff-free and barrier-free trade with our European neighbours based on our rules and regulations being the same at the start, and on maintaining our commitment to free trade and high standards.

However, a responsible government should prepare for all potential outcomes and that is exactly what we are doing across the whole of Government. Every Government department continues to work to ensure a smooth exit from the EU in all eventualities.

more like this

answer text
We are seeking a bold and ambitious economic partnership that is of greater scope and ambition than any such existing agreement. We want to have the greatest possible tariff- and barrier-free trade with our European neighbours, as well as to negotiate our own trade agreements around the world.

We have undertaken an extensive programme of engagement. Ministers and senior officials from across Government have been engaging extensively with both the European Institutions and the 27 Member States. We continue to welcome ministers from across Europe to London on a regular basis. We are clear that we want the EU to succeed: a strong and stable EU, with the UK as its closest partner, is in all of our shared interests.

more like this
