answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/09/2023 answer text <p>Action has already been taken to ban or highly restrict specific Per- and Poly-fluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) both domestically and internationally, including perfluoro-octane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). However, PFAS represent a very diverse group of chemicals with a wide range of uses for which safer and more sustainable alternatives are not yet available.</p><p> </p><p>A 'Regulatory Management Options Analysis' (RMOA) on PFAS was published in Spring 2023 by the Health and Safety Executive. The RMOA assessed PFAS uses, exposure routes, and risk management actions specific to Great Britain. We have accepted the RMOA’s recommendations. These include reducing PFAS emissions by developing UK REACH restrictions, beginning with a restriction on PFAS in fire-fighting foams, and exploring further restrictions covering a wide range of industrial and consumer uses.</p><p> </p><p>We are also developing a cross-government Chemicals Strategy to frame the work we are doing across chemicals and put us on a path for improved chemicals management. It will set out our priorities and principles for taking regulatory action to protect human health and the environment, including our approach to managing PFAS. Subsequently Defra published the summary of results and Government response In November 2022. This report sets out Government plans to improve rather than to eliminate the current horse passport system. Notably this will include increased digitisation to make the system more efficient, accurate and easier to use for horse owners. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/09/2023 answer text <p>The Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Act 2021 amends the Animal Welfare Act 2006 (the 2006 Act) to provide one of the toughest sanctions in Europe and strengthens the UK's position as a global leader on animal welfare. The 2006 Act’s maximum sentence of five years and/or an unlimited fine applies to the most serious animal cruelty offences, including causing unnecessary suffering, and is a significant step forward in improving animal welfare.</p><p> </p><p>The 2006 Act is backed up by the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Horses, Ponies, Donkeys and Their Hybrids which provides owners with information on how to meet the welfare needs of their equines, as required by the 2006 Act. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/09/2023 answer text <p>Last year the Government launched the most ambitious plan to reduce sewage discharges from storm overflows in water company history, driving £56 billion capital investment over 25 years. Water companies will have to achieve targets which mean that, by 2050, no storm overflows will be permitted to operate outside of unusually heavy rainfall or to cause any adverse ecological harm.</p><p> </p><p>The Environment Agency (EA) carries out investigations to determine when a dry spill has occurred. Storm Overflows, in general, should not spill on dry days. There is then a process of further investigation on a site-by-site basis to determine, for example, that the accuracy of certain rainfall monitors and drain down times are correct, as well as other factors. After this thorough process has been conducted, it can be determined if a breach has occurred with sufficient evidence for compliance and enforcement.</p><p> </p><p>If overflows operate outside of permit conditions, the Agency will not hesitate to use all options for robust enforcement action.   This can include criminal prosecution by the Environment Agency for which there can be unlimited fines.
