answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/01/2019 answer text <p>The UK has ambitious targets in place to reduce emissions of five damaging air pollutants (ammonia, nitrogen oxides, non-methane volatile organic compounds, fine particulate matter and sulphur dioxide) by 2020 and 2030. We have put in place a £3.5 billion plan to reduce harmful emissions from road transport, and we will end the sale of new conventional diesel and petrol cars and vans by 2040. Our new and world leading Clean Air Strategy, published on 14 January, focuses on broader emissions beyond road transport and sets goals working towards World Health Organisation recommendations on particulate matter emissions – going further than the EU requires.</p><p> </p><p>Air pollution has reduced significantly since 2010 – emissions of toxic nitrogen oxides have fallen by almost 27%, and are at their lowest level since records began. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/02/2019 answer text <p>Digital advertising is a cost-effective way for the government to recruit nurses, promote blood donations, find out about pensions and all the other important information the public needs to be aware of.</p><p>The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has spent £14,955.67 on Facebook and £63,865.00 on Instagram promoted activity since 2014.</p><p>The figures set out in the table below do not include any recruitment promotion as there is no record held centrally. If we were to provide this data, it would involve working with 24 recruitment leads across Defra, therefore could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. The number of BCG doses made available for badger vaccination was limited in 2017 due to a global shortage and the need to prioritise supplies for human vaccination. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/01/2019 answer text <p>Landowners and private groups across England can apply to Natural England for a licence to vaccinate badgers against TB. Animal &amp; Plant Health Agency (APHA) provides training for those who wish undertake such vaccination and Defra provides financial support for projects within the Edge Area under the Badger Edge Vaccination Scheme (BEVS).</p><p>BEVS, relaunched in 2018 following a global vaccine shortage, provides matched funding and training for groups that want to take part. Three groups were successful with their applications in 2018. On 13 September 2018 we re-opened the scheme and asked for expressions of interest from those wishing to apply to vaccinate from 2019. The application process closes on 25 January 2019.</p><p>A long-standing research programme at APHA to identify an oral vaccine and a palatable bait in which to deliver it is also ongoing. An efficacy study is currently in progress, with results due later this year.</p><p>We are currently considering the report of the TB Strategy review, conducted by a team led by Professor Sir Charles Godfray, the scope of which includes badger vaccination. This sets out what will be done to increase hen harrier populations in England and includes measures to stop illegal persecution. A copy of the plan is available on GOV.UK.</p><p> </p><p>All wild birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, with strong penalties for committing offences against birds of prey and other wildlife. The majority of hare shooting occurs in regions where brown hares are locally abundant and leads to no long-term impact on hare populations. There is no evidence to suggest that a closed season would significantly benefit the conservation status of brown hares.</p><p> </p><p>An industry-led initiative resulted in the publication of a code of practice to protect hares in England. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/01/2019 answer text <p>The Government regularly engages with stakeholders and organisations in the retail sector directly, through Trade Associations and the Food and Drink Sector Council. This includes discussing current issues, gaining the industry viewpoint and providing policy updates.</p><p>The Government is also working with retailers and the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to encourage their efforts to reduce waste and to explore the introduction of plastic-free supermarket initiatives in which fresh food is sold loose, giving consumers increased choice.</p><p>The Government does not have any role in setting food prices nor does it comment on the pricing policies of the food industry. We work closely with industry to promote transparency for consumers and internationally to promote open global markets.
